Help and practicalities

HELP AND WHAT WE PROVIDE AHEAD OF YOUR STAY

Our house manager Samantha lives in the neighbouring village of Staveley and has been running the house since we began holiday letting in 2018. She manages the handover clean and laundry and is also first point of contact if you have any issues during your stay  or want to report any breakages (we don't charge for accidental breakages but it is really helpful to know about them!).

She or her network  will be able to respond very quickly if you have any problems during your stay.

You will also find a very detailed Guest Handbook in the house.

We provide all bedlinen, towels and bathmats, shower gel and liquid handsoap. In the kitchen we provide usual cleaning kit, tea towels, and initial supplies of dishwasher tablets and detergent for the washing machine in the utility room. And loo-rolls of course! And you will find coffee and tea-bags on the shelf.

We set log fires in the two log burners but you will need to buy your own additional logs. PLEASE REMEMBER LOGS ONLY in the woodburner, you can use coal in the open fire.

HOUSE RULES

We didn't buy One Long Houses as a commercial property - it will eventually be our home and is already full of our books, pictures, DVDs, china and so forth. We hope this homely feel is part of the attraction, and expect our guests to treat it as such.  It is expensive to run - cleaning, laundry, heating, electricity, broadband, gardening and finance payments take a good chunk out of your rent payments, and being an old house it is in constant need of repair. So the rest of your rent is ploughed back into the house. Since starting to let the house, we have repainted the exterior, replaced half the roof, cleared the orchard area, rebuilt dry stone walls,  and are embarking on window replacements.

Occasionally in the summer when there is a period with no rain for 2 weeks or more we may request you to be careful with water usage - showers rather than baths, short dishwasher setting, bring clothing to avoid using the washing machine. Our water comes from springs further up the fells fed into two large storage tanks shared with our next door neighbour. If both houses are full then it is best to be careful with water usage. Being the Lake District this isn't a common occurrence!

We have a little dog and know most dog owners are great guests. We allow up to 2 well behaved dogs, but please not on furniture/beds. Please clean up after them in the garden or we will charge you as our gardener isn't paid to pick up poo!

Here are some 'do nots' from some of our less successful guest visits, please do not:

Our cleaning team do everything they can to protect you from Covid - please return the favour and on leaving day empty the kitchen bin and place in the dustbin outside, and fill the dishwasher and leave switched on.
