Getting around

Most guests will use their cars to travel around. But you may prefer to use a local taxi service if going out to eat and drink. You could stay at 1 Long Houses without a car, making use of online food delivery (see ‘shopping’),

Taxis: you can search online for Kendal or Windermere based taxi firms.

The 555 bus service runs through Staveley to Kendal, or in the other direction to Windermere, Ambleside, and Keswick. Mountain Goat is a private minibus service that can connect you from Windermere all over the Lakes, and also does organised tours.

Staveley railway station (SVL) is on the branch line that connects Windermere to the mainline station Oxenholme (just outside Kendal). Allow 80 minutes to walk to Staveley station.

Ferries ply Windermere and Coniston and you can plan good walks between ferry pick up points.
