Kentmere is a beautiful Lake District valley, offering stunning mountain scenery, a remote and off-the-beaten-track feel, and yet is just 20 minutes drive from Windermere. In the picture above, our house is bottom right (if you can't see it, narrow your browser window and it will pop into view). There are abundant walking, running, climbing and biking opportunities in the valley which we listed in the 'Activities' page of this website.

Below is a close up of the view across the valley from One Long Houses front door to St Cuthbert's church, Kentmere nestling below the crags. If the scenery looks remeniscent of the Postman Pat children's TV series that's no coincidence, Postman Pat was based on the next door valley of Long Sleddale. The church is dedicated to Cuthbert, the 'patron saint of northern England' who was laid to rest in Durham Cathedral in 687. The North is dotted with churches dedicated to him, usually linked to apocryphal visits by the Saint. To the left of the church and out of the picture sits 14th Century Kentmere Hall which was recently renovated and is now a home.
